Set in 19th Century Paris, G. Verdi’s classic opera tells the story of a young man who falls in love with a wealthy French prostitute ultimately ending with tragic consequences. With magnificent music sweeping across 19th century Paris salons and the countryside in La Traviata, this is surely one of opera’s most enduring, dramatic and melodic works. Verdi adapted Alexander Dumas’ tragedy of the beautiful courtesan’s socially unacceptable love for a reckless country squire. Alfredo, Violetta’s lover, has his eyes opened to her profound and selfless love, but too late - at her deathbed. Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
The Chicago Star calls this production, “Stunning! Nothing short of a triumph!”
The Boston Phoenix says, “Opera exists to melt our hearts and Teatro Lirico D’Europa does just that with La Traviata!”
